For Zayden’s 8th Birthday this year we decided to have a camouflage “Military Laser War” party!
Laser Tag is definitely a very popular theme with the kids & adults these days. Choosing the theme was easy, the hard part was engaging the perfect laser tag company for a group of age 5 to 8 year old boys. With so many different vendors out there it is hard to know the right one to choose for a kid’s birthday party. Many companies offer face painting, obstacles and fancy vests, but the primary criteria for choosing a laser tag party provider should be the selection of weapons.
Based on this criteria, I decided to have “Tag Team” host the laser tag portion of the party. Tag Team is known for their light and user friendly guns for kids as young as 4 years. They also have a great reputation when it comes to hosting school and corporate events.
Choosing the Perfect Laser Tag Venue
After you decide on your laser tag party provider, the next decision is the “battleground” venue. We decided on a rugged beach terrain that had a lot of shade, trees, rocks, sand and other natural obstacles for the kids to maneuver. The area was perfect for an all out laser tag war.
Tag Team showed up early on party day, before the guests arrived to scope out my pre-selected venue and set-up for the laser battle. They brought with them an artillery of “All Star Team Play” (aka “multi-weapon” battle equipment), as well as large inflatable obstacles.
Just in case you don’t have a specific venue in mind for your party, Tag Team also has their own indoor laser tag venues to choose from at East Coast Park and Downtown East, which also includes a party space. You can contact Tag Team directly to ask for rates and details.
“All Star Team Play” Laser Tag Time
It started heavily raining about 10 minutes before we were about to start the laser tag. Rather than get the kids drenched, we thought it would be best to hang out a bit longer in the party room and do some military drills.
When the rain became a steady drizzle, we decided it was time to venture outside. To my pleasant surprise, Tag Team had already moved all the equipment to a “covered” and dry area on the beach without my instruction.
While undercover and away from the rain, Tag Team gave the party guests an overview of the laser tag equipment and rules of the game. The 31 boys & 2 girls were divided up into teams of 8 to 9 kids each.
Since this was “All Star Team Play” the kids got to choose from a variety of weapons and not just your standard laser gun. They were all super excited to pick their weapon of choice for the battle. The best part was that the weapons could be exchanged at the start of each game, so they got a chance to experience a variety of laser weapons.
Military Style Laser Battle
After the teams had been decided and the weapons had been chosen, it was battle time.
The teams took turns battling each other and each child got the chance to play four games.
After over an hour had passed, the kids were finally ready to head back up for some military style cake and rations.
Other Cool Tag Team Combat/Laser Options
If you have teenager’s birthday party or an adult event to plan, in addition to the All Star Team Play, Tag Team has some other cool options as well like “Mixed Reality Laser Tag“, “Archery Tag” and “Laser Sword Tag“. And something super new and exclusive to Tag Team is “Laser Drone Tag” (I personally would love to check that out). Now those definitely all sound like fun party ideas!!
SuperMommy’s Party Overview
Overall it was a fabulous party and the kids had blast! Face painting stripes is easy and so is organizing a camouflage dress code, but handling tired, aching kids – now that is hard work! Since laser tag was the main attraction at the party (no other games or pinata this year), I wanted to make sure that the kids were entertained and not burned out (with heavy guns) or bored (due to the limited weapons). I am glad we chose Tag Team for their lighter guns and for their All Star Team Play – it really made a difference, especially with the younger kids.
If you are interested in booking your own laser tag party with Tag Team, here is a little something extra to sweeten the deal –
“Readers booking birthday parties will receive exclusive Tag Team souvenirs when you mention “SuperMommy”.
Outdoor Laser Tag Party Tips
Here are a few party tips I wanted to share from my own experience of hosting an outdoor laser tag party…
- Have an alternate rain plan
- Inform party guests to bring a hat, spare clothes & spare shoes
- Provide mosquito spray & sunblock to share with the guests
- Provide water bottles for the guests
- For a large party, find a way to entertain the kids when it is not their turn to play
- Know the location of the nearest restroom
- Popsicles (wish I would have thought of this before the party)
