Looking for a super easy to make Valentine’s Day treat? Make these candy dipped “Strawberry Oreo Heart Sprinkle Cookies”. There is no baking or cooking required! This is something you can make on your own or even get your kids to help.
Things You Need:
- Oreo cookies (any flavor – but strawberry is preferred since they are pink)
- Candy Melts (red or white)
- Valentine sprinkles (red, white and pink)
- Shortening
- Baking/wax paper
Time Required: I made 25 cookies from start to finish in less than 30 minutes (including drying and individually wrapping). But if this is your first time it might take slightly longer.
Where to Buy in Singapore: You can get candy melts from Spotlight or Phoon Huat. Amazon also delivers these to Singapore (that is where I got mine). Crisco shortening is available at Market Place, Cold Storage and Mustafa.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1:
Melt the candy melts. You can either use the microwave or a double broiler. Follow the directions on the packet. If you are using the microwave, heat the candy melts on low heat or the defrost setting. Heat for short intervals of 30 seconds and stir.
Super Tip: After heating up the candy melts, add some shortening to get a smoother consistency.
Step 2:
Using a spoon, spread the melted candy melts on the cookie.
Super Tip: Feel free to get creative with your cookie by covering the entire cookie or making a design with the candy melts.
Step 3:
Using either a spoon or your hands sprinkle the Valentine sprinkles over the portion of the cookie with the melted candy.
Step 4:
Place the completed cookie on wax paper and let it cool.
Step 5:
Repeat Steps 2 thru 4 until all the cookies dipped & sprinkled.
Super Tip: Make sure to work fast, otherwise the candy will harden up and be difficult to work with. If this happens just reheat the candy melts again. I like to heat up small portions at a time. This helps to avoid wastage as well.
Step 6 (optional):
Place the cookies in individual treat bags. This makes it easy to pass out at a party, school lunch boxes or to your special someone. You can also attach a cute message to the package and give it to your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day.
